Wednesday 1st July 2020

Art week: Have you entered the art competition yet? You can find out all about on our topic work from Monday 29th June or on the competition page. You could be the one winning!

Reading

Today your reading work is on Storyline Online. You will listen to the story of Young Mason Steele, a great story which shows how actions matter more than words. This story is set at a time where computers didn’t even exist. People had to write to each other on paper, either by hand or using a typewriter. Mason was a very good writer and one day he got given a special day gift…

After listening to the story, answer the following questions:

  1. What did Mason decide to do after receiving the gift from the civil rights group?
  2. How do you think the boys felt when father told them they were going to attend a formerly all-white high school?
  3. What was different about the electric typewriter?
  4. How did Mason’s father react when he got fired from the library?
  5. How did this story make you feel? Explain why.
  6. What did you like about that story?

Maths

Continue with your daily lesson on the Oak Academy. We are still learning about measures and today you will learn about problem solving when working with lengths. You will compare and match measurements and their equivalents. You will be using formal and informal ways of recording mathematical thinking and use these ideas to help you solve mathematical length problems.

Writing

We are continuing with our topic of adventure stories on the Oak academy. In this lesson, you are going to explore the features of an adventure story. Remember to pause the video as you go along and complete the activities.

History

Today, your topic work is to watch a documentary about Ancient Egypt. You know a lot about the Egyptians already, but it is always good to refresh our knowledge to make sure that we create long term memory (that means knowledge we won’t forget).

When you are done watching, creating a poster comparing life in Ancient Egypt with life today.

Daily exercise

Get ready for some Roblox Fitness. Click here to play the 'Would You Rather' game. You will have 10 seconds to choose which of the 2 options is your favourite, and then complete the exercise you have chosen for 30 seconds.

We hope you are keeping well. Thinking of you!

Monday 29th June 2020

Happy Monday! We hope you had a great weekend. Let’s start the week with some happy news

Reading

This week we will learn about the ‘Adventure story’ genre. Head over to the Oak Academy and complete their reading comprehension lesson. Start your lesson with a quiz, then watch the video making sure you pause it when the teacher asks you to.

Maths

This week, you will continue learning about measures. In this lesson, you will be learning about calculating with time. You will be adding amounts of time and keeping a running total. You will be learning to tabulate your results and work out missing values. You will be calculating using hours, minutes and seconds and then using this knowledge to investigate mathematical problems.

Writing

The sun was out last week and some of you had a lot of fun outside. Write a diary entry about your favourite day from last week and explain all the fun things you have been up to.

Art

In case you haven’t read it at the top of our page, we have got a few weeks of exciting art coming up! This week, our school art theme is ‘The Natural World’. There are 4 activities that you can choose from, but feel free to do as many as you want!

Have a look at this PowerPoint and decide which art project you would like to complete. As our theme is ‘the natural world’, you will need to go outside to collect some natural elements for your project. Make sure you ask your adult’s permission!

Send us pictures of your artwork and remember that there are some exciting prizes to win! But because the most important thing is participating, each participant will receive an art certificate.

Be creative and have fun!

If you don't have Powerpoint, here are the links to the four different activities.

Daily exercise

Time for some dance. Here are some of our favourite Just Dance videos.
