Theme - To Market, To Market

This week our theme is 'To Market, To Market’. This theme will explore different types of shops and different types of food. The children will learn that:

• A supermarket is where people buy food. 
• A supermarket had different departments for different kinds of foods.
• The supermarket sells different types of food such as bread, cereal, milk and meats.
• A customer is a person who buys food.
• A cashier takes the money for the food you buy.     
• Shop assistants fill the shelves.
• We need money to buy things.

Activities:

• Talk to your grown-up about different shops that you go in and what you buy from the shops.
• Make your own little shop and ask people in your house to come and buy something!
• Make a shopping list of what you would buy from the shops. Draw pictures of the items. Then write a label for each item thinking about the initial sound (a,a, apple).

Name Writing

Your name is very important. It is part of who you are! It is important that you recognise your name and start to learn to write it. Ask a grown-up to write it down for you. Now have a try at forming some of the letters yourself. Practise this every day!

Maths

Please do at least one counting activity each day:

• Practise counting forwards to 10. When you are confident at counting to 10, practise counting to 20. (You might enjoy listening to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VLxWIHRD4E
• Every time you go upstairs, count the steps as you move up 1. Remember to say only one number for each step.
• Sing or listen to a range of number rhymes. You will find some on youtube or BBC Bitesize.

This week we are learning to count sets of objects and match the correct numeral.

• When you have listened to the story 'The Shopping Basket', make a picture of the different items on the list (6 eggs, 5 bananas, 4 apples, 3 oranges, 2 doughnuts and 1 packet of crisps). Draw the correct number of items and write the numeral next to them.
• Set up your little shop. Ask your grown-up for some pennies, practise using the pennies to pay for the items, e.g. if an item costs 5p, count out 5 pennies.
