Writing
Tuesday
This week we will be writing a poem about poppies to help us think about Remembrance Sunday this weekend. To start the week, draw a poppy and write as many adjectives you can think of around it. Remember an adjective is a word that describes something. For example a poppy is red, bright and beautiful. Here is a picture of a poppy to help start you off.
Wednesday
There are lots of different types of poetry. One way to write poetry is to make a shape poem. Here are some examples of shape poems.
Draw the outline of a poppy. Using the adjectives you wrote down yesterday can you fill your poppy shape with words describing it. Challenge - write some of the adjectives in descriptive sentences. You may want to get a grown up to draw lines for you to write on.
Thursday
Another type of poem is an acrostic poem. This is where you write the word the poem is about down the side of the page. You then write a word coming off each letter to describe this. So if we are writing about poppies an acrostic poem may look like this:
Pretty
Opening in the sun
Perfect
Peaceful
You help us remember!
Now try and write your own acrostic poem about poppies. You can use adjectives you have thought of in your previous work to help you.
Friday
Independent Writing! We have looked at 2 different ways of writing poems about poppies using adjectives. Chose one of these and write your own poem about poppies. Try to write it on your own.
Remember to:
- Use capital letters
- Use finger spaces between words
- Sound out the words carefully
