Today we are going to continue to learn to tell the time.
Grown-ups: Talk to your child about different times of the day that you do things at (try to stick to o’clock times).
What time do you get up in the morning?
What time do you have breakfast?
What time do you go to school?
What time do you have lunch?
What time do you finish school?
What time do you have tea?
What time do you go to bed?
Watch this video again to help you read some o’clock times:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIxaxnageTo
Now look at the clocks below, can you read the o’clock times?
Reading
We only have 3 weeks left until the summer holidays. It is very important that you are doing a reading activity every day. This can be done in different ways:
- Ask a grown-up to read a story to you and then retell the story to them.
- Read a story on the Oxford Owl website. You should try to read at least 3 books every week.
- Practise reading phase 2, 3 and 4 tricky words. (You can watch these on ‘YouTube’ by searching tricky word songs). Your grown-up could make you flashcards with the tricky word on.
- Phonics games on espresso or phonics play.
Please choose a reading activity to do today.
Writing/Phonics
Today we are going to learn the sound ‘ch’. First watch the video on espresso:
Now make a list of words with the ‘ch’ sound in.
Challenge: Write a sentence with one or more of your ‘ch’ words in it.

Today’s Question:
- What food do they eat in France?
In France, they eat lots of food that is similar to the food that we eat in England. There are some foods that come from France that you may have tried. For example, you may have tried a croissant for your breakfast. Croissants are a French food. Click on the links below to find out what other food is from France. Have you tried any of these foods? Maybe your grown-up will let you try some of these foods this week.

Writing
Mrs Kidd has a nephew called James that lives in France. We would like to send some letters to James to help us find out more about France. For your writing activity today, please write a letter to James and ask him a question that you would like to find out about France. Send a picture of your letter to us and we will send them to James.
Here is an example of a letter:
Moston Lane Primary School
Moston

Bonjour James
My name is Mrs Rycroft. I live in England. I would like to find out more about France.
What is your school like?
Have you ever been up the Eiffel Tower?
What is the weather like where you live?
What football team do your support in France?
From Mrs Rycroft
Remember to:
Say your sentence to your grown-up.
Sound out each word carefully.
Write the letters down in sequence.
Put a finger space between each word.
Put a full stop at the end of your sentence.
Maths
Today we are going to start learning to tell the time. It is important to learn to tell the time so that we know when it is time to get up; when it is time to go to school; when it is time to go to bed and many other key parts of our day.
First of all have a look at a clock face or a watch with your grown-up. Look at:
- The numbers going around the clock from 1-12.
- The long hand (this is the minute hand).
- The short hand (this is the hour hand).
Now we are going to learn to read o’clock times. When it is an o’clock time the long minute hand points to the 12 at the top of the clock. The short hour hand tells us what o’clock time it is.
Watch this video to help you read some o’clock times:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIxaxnageTo
Grown-ups: When your child has watched the video once, watch it again and pause the video on different times for your child to read the o’clock time.

Today’s Question:
- What language do they speak in France?
There are lots of different languages that are spoken in the world. In England we speak English. Some children in our class speak other languages at home and are learning to speak English while they are in school with us.
In France they speak the language French. Today we are going to learn some French. Let’s start with some greetings:
Hello – Bonjour
Goodbye – Au revoir
How are you? – Ca-va?
This video will help you to pronounce the words correctly:

Phase 2: no, go, I, the, to, into
Phase 3: he, she, we, me, be, was, you, are, her, all, they, are, my
Phase 4: said, have, like, so, do, some, come, little, one, were, there, what, went, out

Today’s Questions:
- Where is France?
- How could we travel to France?
Have a look at the maps below. The first map is a map of the whole world. Click on the map to make it bigger. See if your grown-up can help you find Great Britain and France on the world map. The map next to it shows Great Britain and France closer up. Have a look at this as well.
If you wanted to visit France, we would need to cross the ‘English Channel’. This is the water in between England and France. How do you think we could travel to France?
Watch this video on espresso about how different families travelled to Paris. Paris is the capital city of France.
https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/t1_passport/france/video.html
Can you remember the 3 different ways that the families travelled to France?
Writing
If you were going on holiday to France, how would you like to travel there? Draw a picture of the transport that you would choose and write a label.
Challenge: Write a sentence about how you would travel to France.
Maths
This is the French flag:
It has the colours blue, white and red. We could make a pattern with these colours:
Pattern A: O O O O O O O O O
Pattern B: O O O O O O O O O O O O
Can you make your own repeating pattern using 2 or 3 colours. You might have objects to make your pattern with such as beads or counters. You could use felt tips or crayons to draw your pattern.
You could also try this ‘Top Marks’ maths game. You need to complete the shape and colour patterns:
